For Ify, documentary filmmaking is where journalism meets art, where research meets humanity, and where stories become lasting historical and cultural records.

Award Winning Journalist

Ify’s work explores the intersection of history, culture, identity, social justice, mental health, and the human experience. Whether documenting the origins of an African community, celebrating the extraordinary talents of a child on the autism spectrum, or chronicling a mother’s journey through unimaginable loss, Ify approaches every story with curiosity, compassion, sensitivity, and an unwavering commitment to authenticity.

Her greatest strength lies in her ability to see beyond the obvious — to discover the extraordinary in the ordinary, uncover the deeply human stories behind events and headlines, and transform those stories into compelling narratives that educate, inspire, and endure.

Ify’s distinctive storytelling style is rooted in an exceptional combination of advanced academic training, creative discipline, and extensive professional experience.

She holds a Master’s Degree in Journalism, with a specialization in Documentary Filmmaking, from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism in New York.

She also holds an Associate Degree in Media and Digital Film Production from the City University of New York’s Bronx Community College, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Theater Arts from Delta State University, Abraka, Nigeria.

This multidisciplinary educational background has equipped her with a distinctive understanding of storytelling across different media.

Her graduate education at Columbia University sharpened her journalistic instincts, investigative skills, research methodology, and documentary storytelling techniques. Her training in digital filmmaking strengthened her command of the visual language of cinema, while her foundation in theater arts cultivated a deep appreciation for dramatic structure, character development, dialogue, and the emotional complexities of human experience.

Together, these disciplines have shaped a storyteller who combines the investigative rigor of a journalist, the imagination of a dramatist, and the visual sensibility of a filmmaker.

Ify does not simply document events. She explores their deeper significance, examines the human experiences behind them, and creates narratives that resonate long after the final scene.

From Radio to Television: The Making of a Storyteller

She created, produced, and hosted Revelations, a talk show broadcast on Star FM. More than two decades later, Echoes from the Valley continues to air on Africa Independent Television (AIT), reflecting the longevity of her creative vision and her commitment to bringing meaningful stories to audiences.

A Journalist Across Multiple Platforms

An accomplished multimedia journalist, she is also the Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Echoes Africa Magazine, a publication that established itself as a reference point for stories about Africa, Africans, and the African diaspora

Documenting a People, Preserving a Legacy

Among Ify’s most ambitious creative undertakings is The Ngwa People of Abia State: A Nation Within a Nation, a six-part documentary exploring the history, origins, culture, identity, traditions, and enduring legacy of the Ngwa people of southeastern Nigeria.
